These Guys (?) Don't Look So Tough!
Still I wouldn't turn down a chance to visit the locker room after the game!

I don't think this is going to be to tough a match-up against the Colts at Lucas Oil Field's last pre-season game tonight. I mean look at these guys, they are just a bunch of girls! In an AFC North division the Bangles may not even make it past two of their three division rivals in either regular season game this year. Quarterback Carson Palmer (in the dreamy off shoulder pink) number was knocked out of last weeks pre-season match-up against the Saints with a bloody lip and three sacks. His pre-season record is not too impressive either with just 188 yards and a 57.9 percentage completion rating and only 1 TD matched with 1 Interception. Well it is just preseason, and this game means nothing in the grand design, and I doubt the Peyton will even step on the field with a helmet, since he is still recovering from off season knee surgery.
The Colts will see the Bangles in regular season action on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7th (Week 14) again here at the new Stadium, and that will be more of a mano et mano matchup I hope. The Colts will have 5 prime-time games this season including the "official Lucas Oil Stadium Opener next Sunday against the Chicago Bears. In contrast, The Bangals snappy dressers will only be stepping out one time this season in prime time, and its not even a manic monday night game it is a Thursday nighter against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Prediction: I Look for The Bangles to finish third in their division below the Steelers and the division champs The Ravens, leaving the Browns to cleaning the basement again this season. Oh Susanna don't you cry for me. Speaking of that the Rock Band the Bangles (down to three gorgeous gals will actually be kicking off a tour on September 1st at Dolphin Stadium in Miami (where the Colts won their first World Championship I seem to remember) before heading to Scotland for a retrofest gig.

CIN
Jenni and I have often wondered why most TV announcers and many mid-westerners can not say Bengals with a Bing or even a Ben. We often hear them called the Bang-ul-s, thus todays tongue in cheek approach to... Mmmm Susanna Hoffs, I mean Football and tonight's game.

The Air Game and the Ground Game

F-22A Raptor

Sunday's Indianapolis Air Show at Mt. Comfort was another stunning success. The F-22A Raptor is more than amazing, it is the most technically advanced war bird ever. Seeing the maneuverability and raw power is awe inspiring. Then when I heard the show announcer say that it weighs 68 thousand pounds my jaw dropped. This beast weighs 34 tons? This brick that can troll at 80 knots, and can turn completely around and go the other direction in about the space of a city block has the same weight as 100 new BMW 330i's.

The Lucas Oil biplane was impressive, as were the Fagen Ethanol biplane and the wing walker and the historic War-Birds. Now I only have to wait another 12 month to see the next air show, the lucky 13th.
Too bad the other Lucas Oil happening was not as lucky. The Colts were in the New Stadium facing a real opponent last night. Lucky for all concerned that it was a pre-season game, one that does not effect the season or the run for another record breaking AFC South Championship and Post season appearance. Peyton, who is still recovering from off season knee surgery was in the house in civilian apparel, so was his back-up Jim Sorgi. Back-up back-ups Quinn Gray and Jared Lorenzen had themselves a dismal night. Between the two back-ups there were 4 interceptions, 210 yards passing and only 1 touchdown. My inability to be in more than one place at any given moment placed me in front of a TV for the Colts non-dome home debacle.
Quantum Physics (and a previous channel remote button) did allow me to watch events from Beijing and Lucas Oil Stadium at more or less the same time though, so who's complaining?

I eagerly await the regular season opener against the Bears of Chicago Illinois, and gladly accept the close of the Olympics. I'm sure I will still be missing sleep for other (as yet unknown) reasons once again, now that I don't have to stay up watching the medal counts (USA110, China 101).

Saturday was a busy, busy day. There was time off to be observed, there were presents for presentation, there was scrambling and there were cues to be taken and stood in and stadiums to tour with wife and the Novak's.  Barb and Mike Novak procured a couple of extra tour the new facility tickets for Jenni and I and Rich and JD.  The place is really nice inside and so much more roomy. I can't wait until I can se it with a more modest crowd on a game day.
Having recently been to Lambeau field in Green Bay Jenni and I could not help but make comparisons. The two structures are very similar under he seats and in the concourse areas. Of course Green Bay's Lambeau is topless, because the fans there know how to dress themselves.  Here in Weenieapolis we will probably have three games where the sky is the unlimited.  Still and all the place is awe inspiring.
birthday lineup

After the tour (where Jenni blew out her left knee and there wasn't a trainer in the house to help) we hobbled back to the car and made our way to the Chatterbox to join Rich, JD and Mel already in progress.

Saturday was Mel's birthing reunion, but none of the people from the original big event were there except Mel. As surrogate medical staff  the afore mentioned Rich & JD wee joined by Jenni and I, miss Kay and Maddie and Guy Tucker to help Missy usher in another cycle of the sun as it relates to her first presence beneath it extra-uteri.
Sadly we had to truncate our visit as Jenni football field days ended and she was swelling from pride in all her fingerless extremities.

5 Ring Zombie
ringos
Wow. Women's Individual Gymnastic gold and silver. Wow, Michael Phelps. Wow Rebecca Soni. Wow, I was up until 1:30. I didn't sleep much afterward. I got some shut eye, but mostly I just didn't. I was up before 5:00. I know for sure I will be paying for this later. I'm in training. I'm going for a Gold in the Insomnia Marathon. Wow! Feel that Burn! Sure, it's in my eyes, but it's a start!
I was just giggling during the pool-side interview with Rebecca Soni, she just smoked the competition and was so humble and pleasant. I don't think she realized her accomplishment yet.

New Competition, Kitchen Olympix!
Usually I am a man up to most any challenge. I tackle things that I "might" be able to do with an attitude of "sure" I can. I usually succeed to a certain extent. Put my mind to a task and I get an acceptable result. But, A dare? That is a different story. A dare usually involves doing something that is foolish, dangerous, illegal or all of the above. I rarely accept dares, once the options are weighed and the rewards are calculated dares usually are found in the deficit column of the rewards ledger. So as I received an e-mail very early this morning while my world was still crashing down over me from a day that is best just forgotten, I looked upon a 'bet' or dare I received from Stuart Florida, a challenge that my Beautiful Daughter took and chose to lay on my already over burdened shoulders, and said to myself. Sure. Why not.

Compulsory Dive. Meredith Pace ©2008
The picture above is just that dare made flesh. Lots of flesh. This person is one of Meredith coworkers, who said I would not post it on my site. I believe that this is another event being considered for the 2012 summer games in London. The platform dive into a bowl of gumbo. Obviously there is a lot of training involved, and a lot of gumbo! I believe the contestant is starting a 2 and a half inverted to a pike, and then the big finish the chomp!
There's no way he'll put that on his site. Bet on it.

Didn't I see this guy outside a Frish's?
I'm Beginning to Wonder
I asked you all to wish me luck, I know that 'you all' isn't as many as it used to be, that's my fault I know. I haven't been posting nearly as much as I should be. I've let you down, so maybe this is payback, maybe I had it coming.
Well the bowling experience is over for a bistle (I don't know how many bistles it takes to make a bit, but it is a lot), but the bowling experience may never be over. Tom; so impressed with Rich and I's mediocrity has asked us to join the fun (and failure) in his fall league (as alternates). Then there is the next Chatterbowling experience. David Andrichick, kegler aficionado and all around sport of sports has talked to the Smiths (not the ultra depressed British fab-rockers) the All-Star Bowl managers about making beer and pizza league. The seemed receptive to a whole new revenue stream, surprise. For our final performance on the uneven parallel lanes we all stumbled a bit. For the second straight week I had a higher series than our anchor Tom. We managed to take the last game but dropped two spots from 15th back to 17th where we have been spending a lot of our time. Next Monday we go for our paltry pay-out. Wish me lunch money? No I dare not ask again until I have reestablished your trust and confidence.
It was another long and mostly sleep deprived night thanks to the Olympics. Sadly our Women's Gymnastic team had some falters in their last two rotations but still the solidly captured the Silver medal. Michael Phelps is now the greatest Olympian with two more Golds (and 5 so far these games).
Well it is another day and another day requires me to make the best of it. I must finish getting ready for work.

Now the sad news. Just a few minutes before my alarm went off this morning, a sad missive made it 's way into my text message roll. It said "Brighid is gone" and it was from Melissa (Mel) about her beloved Boxer and companion. It is always awful to lose a loved one and and my heart goes out to those who survive her, Mel and Benton. I searched in vain this morning to find any of the photos I have of Brighid to post here but short notice and long day ahead have thwarted my efforts.
The photo is of Benton, all of us here at the World HQ wish him well.

Games End, Games Continue
patriot_pin
Tonight's the night we make history, I do believe it's true. Tonight our effort is recorded forever in the annals of bowling history, a permanent record will be added to USBC's massive database. We won't have done anything overly fantastic, but a record will be made anyway. Last week we did the possible for the first time in this 14 week summer series, we took all three games and series (duh.).
Tonight we will be competing to stay above worst. We will be trying to finish 17th or better out of 18 teams.
Last week I had my league high game @ 189, and my second highest series @ 510, tonight I try once again to hit the elusive 200 mark. Wish me luck.

At 12:50 I shut the TV off and tried for sleep. The USA mens' gymnastic team had just won a Bronze against what was supposed to be insurmountable odds. The Chinese team crushed the competition and the Japanese barely squeaked by the USA team in the final round. Just like the qualifications rounds the final event for the Americans was the pommel horse, and this time the first two had problems erasing the points lead the US had over Japan and putting the bronze in peril, that's when Alexander 'Sasha' Artemev gave another amazing pommel horse routine. Again he had the fastest, widest flares of any of the competition, and put The American team in solid for the Bronze, the Germans were the last to compete who may have had a chance to beat the US and on the same apparatus, but the first tow wee lackluster performances and their anchor best effort still fell short of the amazing Artemev. Michael Phelps continues to be the unstoppable force in the swimming events, and has tied Mark Spitz from my generation with 9 career Gold metals, but he still has 5 events to win and become the greatest Olympian of all time!

Don't Blink
Olympians, olympians, olympians!
Being a human, I am always inspired by exhibitions of human greatness. Always captivated watching the greatest athletes in the world competing in the worlds greatest venue. Politics and geography aside I am amazed at the limits of human endurance and performances and determination and perseverance of those who would push those limits. They are all heros, role models and inspirations.
You may have guessed. I have been watching my fair share of the games, staying up until midnight or later each night.
My stomach muscles are still sore from clinching and holding during the men's gymnastics segments. The Chinese on the rings were scary, precise and intimidating. USA men's team Alexander 'Sasha' Artemev gave an absolutely amazing pommel horse demonstration with the fastest widest flare of the legs I saw during any of the early competition, the USA team has to finish in the top eight to compete in the medals rounds, the Chinese, Japanese and Russian teams are the dominate teams and are 1-2-3 in that order after day one mens gymnastic competition.
There are a few Hoosiers in the games, including Mariel Zagunis, Notre Dame student and now two time Olympic Gold Medalist in Fencings "Sabre" competition. Getting most of Indiana's attention are two competitors on the Women's Gymnastic team, Brigit Sloan and Sam Peszek. Sam competed in only one even after sustaining an injury to one of her legs and did an exceptional job.
Again last night I was up until well after midnight watching. Like so many I was up and pumping my fist in the air along with Michael Phelps when the USA Men's swimming team took the 4x100 IM relay at the wall with a fingertip touch by Jason Lesak beating the French team and anchor swimmer Alain Bernard by 8/100ths of a second to take the Gold. Then there is Dara Torres, the oldest Olympic swimmer ever to win a medal with a Silver in her first event and more to come. Natalie Coughlin and so many others.

Off to work with my sleepy self and sleepy wife, go team USA!

Been a Long Lonely, Lonely, Lonely Time
What can I say? I got complacent. I settled then I settled in. So much has happened since I last sent thought into the troposphere and beyond. Too much to adequately do any one thing justice here in afterthought land I am sad to say.
There was the worst race in Brickyard history and a tire company that can't make tires nearly as wall as they make excuses.
There were a couple evenings at the bowling lanes that failed to have their stories told and are feeling pretty low because of my rejection.
There was the lovely evening at Jake and Vanessa's to send our pal Nick off to Tempe to become even more than those that remain behind to honor and remember.
There is Tweek the pus drooling cat and his subsequent oral surgery, which came with the bonus "20 flying exacto blade claws" and the oral antibiotics.
Also, Pool version 2.0. New book tech editing well under way, and a new book by Bill Fitzhugh from Kay, personally signed by the author hisownself.
Since my inconsiderate absence there was also two seasons of Angel optically absorbed. The Dark Knight, and the long days at work.
The invasion from the Thromians from the Gamalon sector of the 8th dimension, the carnage, and the memory purge of the unworthy. I don't think that should go unmentioned.
So much time, so little mind. I can only make a weak commitment to do better, to get the words out of my head and to relieve the oppressive pressure!
