Kicking the defensive demons
The Colts win in Baltimore, again!
Indianapolis kicked some defensived demons in the process, their own and the number 1 rated defense in the league at the same time. The offense struggled again, and only our new kicker, Adam Vinatieri was a real bright spot on offense. Peyton had 2 ints and no TD's and a 39.6 QB rating in the victory because the defense was the real story. I'm not into numerology, but I can tell you that 23,42,51,48 and 35 put together means that #4 helped the #3 seed get 1 step away from the Superbowl and to the AFC championship (or possibly the Championship will come to us if New England beats San Diego tomorrow). Another set of numbers? Try 14-4 and 9-0 at home.

Looks like Mickey Needs a Hat to wear!
Gameday: Playoffs #2
On Thursday Mike Wilson sent his old Navy (not the clothing store with the horrible commercials, the military institution) buddy Mickey McGowan the following e-mail:
Go Colts!
To which Mickey replied:
What  Ever .......

Baltimore can't wait for "The Colts" to come here.
Revenge doesn't describe the emotion in this town. It will be UGLY!

Mick "Cleveland Browns" McGowan
Yesterday at lunch Mike told Rich and I that he is going to visit Mickey in a few weeks. Mike even offered to bring him a Colts hat to wear when he watches the Superbowl. Rich and I thought that might get Mickey lynched.
While we were at PennStation having lunch Kay was at the store waiting for our return. We finished and arrived to give Kay counsel on computing and cameras, got her the appropriate card reader and a brief lesson (with warnings about file corruption) and I introduced Kay to Jo and Becky Campbell up front. Becky said. "Oh yeah, you're famous. You are all over the internet." Kay said, "No, just chuckpace, com." Then we talked about the local electronics superstore where she went to look at flat screen TV's, but her super-salesman could not get the set to work, which persuaded her to look elsewhere. She hasn't bought yet, for concern about using rabbit ears on a new set, I assured her that she could, so we'll see.

After work the Mahogoff Bros. faced another tough opponent, the number 1 team in our Friday league. We took game one convincingly with me scoring a 206 and Proctor getting 23 pins over his average too. Jeff Moore was close to his average, Rich was 50 pins down looking up at his from a valley. That was all the convincing "Are We Done Yet?" needed, they took the next two and canceled our 74 point advantage from the first win as well. The only thing we had going for us was Anni Hood, she (and Lex in transit) was there with Scott and took on the duties of beer winch for the evening. After debacle bowling Rich and I went to Wirty's for 6 quick games of pool which ended in a stale mate (Rich lost two on the eight, won three legit and I won the last one legit.)
Here's to Mickey and everyone in Baltimore!
Go Colts! Go Colts!

As DeAnne can already tell you Rich and I went with David A. to the Pacers Hawks contestestosteroné de orb last evening. The BMW was left in the store lot as to facilitate a warmer, quicker reintroduction to the giles and wiles of 435 Mass ave. after. Before the game I half expected Travis to show up an taxi us again, but there was no Little Buddy. When we arrived before the game I started to sit at the stage end of the bar, then noticed a water-glass restraining a solitary buck in front of the stool I chose, I asked if there was someone (still) sitting
page0_blog_entry957_2
there to which David replied. "Brooks was, but he just left." 'Yes! Thank God," I said, for I really wanted to sit (and not because Brooks was gone and I missed him, if I'd missed him I might have wanted to see... never mind). Jack Green was alone at one of the round tables, so I allowed him the company of my coat on the facing chair. Kay popped in and took the position between Rich and I at the bar and we chattered for a bit. Since our CEO cabbie was not arriving we called a professional "hack and hanson" to arrive us to the gates of sporting conquest. After the Blue and Gold vanquished the Atlanteans by a margin of 19 we returned to the 'Box the manner previously described. Kay, Jody Frick, Maryanne and David Bueke had been replaced by Brad Griffith, Sue Hobbs, Peter Park and the likes of Mike Lamm (there would not be room for the dislikes of M.L.). Vanessa and Nick were able to substitute for DeAnne, and Frank and Claude were able to substitute for the juke box. After a brief intermission I again resumed my place behind the wheel of my little German Girl and she saw me safely and swiftly (though legally) home once again.

Surprise Endings
oranging sky
An Oranging Sky. Chuck Pace © 2007 Todays header photo has absolutely no connection to the Content of this post. and is the beginning of a day not an ending.
41:26. That's how long the Colts-Chiefs game went before Kansas City got their first 1st Down. 3:34 seconds before the end of the 3rd Quarter. All star, superstar running back (over 1,700 Al purpose Yards, 2006) Larry Johnson? I, like many (most) thought that he would have a post-season record setting rushing day, I figured him for 200 rushing alone. The Colts rush defense allowed a record making 100 yards (or more) per game this year, not average; every opponent rushed for over 100 yards. So if the Colts are to make it to the AFC Championship they will most likely face the top three running backs in the AFC on the way. Well #2, Larry Johnson, has been faced and and humbled. As one Chiefs fan said on the local NBC news affiliate pre-game yesterday, "#26 Larry Johnson, duh, what else do I have to say!?" Well; Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney, Antoine Bethea, Robert Mathis, or how about 126 total yards of Offense for the Chiefs. In other Colts Defense. While ecstatic about those words (rarely applied without and expletive preceding one or both words) I am still concerned about the next game, next Saturday at 4:30 against the Ravens of Baltimore. The Ravens Defense is one of the best in the league while ours was ranked 32nd out of how many teams? While our offense struggled (3 interceptions for Peyton, 2 more to Ty Law who has more Peyton Manning int's than any other player in the league) we were struggling due to our own mistakes facing an also weak KC defense. Even with the mistakes on offense the Colts put up 435 yards. The latter game Seattle vs. America's Team (my a**) Dallas was an exciting one coming down to the wire (more than once) with the Game winning FG attempt botched on the placement by Tony Romo, who scrambled to within a yard of the 1st down before failing, falling, flailing and fumbling to give the ball to Seattle for a clock crushing drive to the mid field before turning the ball back to Dallas with 2 seconds on the game clock: time for one hail mary pass, batted down to fall safely to the turf in Seattle and advance last year's superbowl runner's up to the Divisional NFC Game (opponent still to be determined). Ironically, through day one of the Wild Card weekend the Colts have the best offensive and defensive numbers. Seattle had 332 yards and Dallas 284.
What about Bowling you ask? (Even if you didn't, somebody else was going to) Well the Mahogoff Brothers are still the perennial underdogs, we are in last place even though we won 2 games on Friday, we lost the middle contest by 97 pins and series by 11. E-gads! Our lineup on friday was C.Scott leading off and averaging 132 per game (with a 115 running average), Will Andrichik filling in for Jeff Moore and averaging 169 per game (also above his 162 established mark) then me pulling down a 158 average and failing to hit my target of 162 in all but the final game. Rich did hist anchor duty well, and pulled off a 176 evenings average to top his 164 league mark. I had a heroic finish to a really awful game on the third attempt of the evening with four in a row to hit the 164 mark otherwise I would have really been the goat of the night. Annie Hood, C Scott's significant other and expectant mother was our designated beer wench for the evening even though Mel Shoffner who came to spectate ended up carrying more "rounds" to the orb slinger combatants. Other spectators for the Brothers Mahogoff Traveling Road show and Bowling extravaganza were Maddie Tucker (whose daughter is due about the same time as Annie), and Doris McQuian (who is expecting another Bud Select after 6:00 o'clock any given day). It looks like four to six weeks from now we are going to be up to our eyeballs on diapers and empty Bud select bottles!
Today, in about 45 minutes actually is Chatterbox Bowling event #1 of 2007. Chatterbowling is also held at Sport Bowl and is the reason Rich and I got into competitive drinking bowling in the first place about 5 years ago after a second Chatterbowling session that year we signed up for a two man summer league, and the rest, as they say is misery history.

Late Night Excitement
Last night I was in the World HQ with the flat screen TV in front of me while I was making magnet and cup designs for the 3rd (procrastination over) and 4th Qtr. Mention Meter winners and finalists. On the TV was the Fiesta Bowl game which didn't end until almost 1:00 AM, a
Broncos
barn burner where the 'Cinderella' Boise State Broncos led the entire game until inside the final minute when the ranked favorite Oklahoma Sooners took their first lead with a TD and successful two point conversion (after two penalty tries). The Broncos of Boise State then marched back down the field to re-tie and force overtime play. Boise then won the toss and gave the ball to OU (in College, each team gets a possession at the opponents 25 yard line, and if both score, the cycle continues until one team prevails). Oklahoma scored on the very first play of overtime. Boise State struggled, but got a first down after a couple of yardage losses, then punched in for a touchdown, going for a 2-point conversion they beat the favorite on a trick play (the "Statue of Liberty Play") when Quarterback Jared Zabransky faked a throw to the WR flooded right and tail-back, Ian Johnson took the ball from behind his back and
boise_football_header
ran in untouched to a score on the left. 43-42 Boise State. The Broncos finished their season 13-0, and I went to the shower(s) revitalized by an underdog victory that had me on the edge of my seat from the first 5 minutes of the game.
Yes it's true underdogs can win over all the odds and critics by playing with heart and never giving up...
Congratulations to Kay Niedenthal for winning the 4th Quarter Mention Meter over heavily favored Rich (I'm on a Cruise) Culy!

foreign cabby gam
Lasterday, a term my daughter Meredith coined when she was three or four, I went to the Pacers game with David Andrichik, Rich Culy and about 15,000 other people I guess, and I could only guess at their names, so I'll use a general term like fans or ticket holders. Normally I try to get as much information as I can in these public events just in case I might later post the happenings. I always try to be as accurate as I can and I could probably only give you first names here for most of the attendees, so we'll stick with fans. I hope I haven't hurt anybody's feelings.
The game was a see saw battle (which should have made it more like a half-time show if you really think about it, except there wasn't really a see saw there; that's just how the scoring went. First one team on top, then the other, not unlike children on a playground enjoying a popular amusement known as a see saw, see?), with the Pacers down by 10 points as the remaining time got inside 6:00 minutes. The Pacers then went on a 16 to 3 run to close out with a 5 point victory. David, Rich and I agreed that if the team had played with anything close to that kind of intensity for the entire game they could have easily won by over 30.
Like any journey getting there is half the fun, or so they say. Well we normally call a cab to get to the games, but last night after several minutes of prodding, threatening, begging and coercion Travis volunteered to take us to the game (Yes, I'll destroy those negatives now T). Old habits die hard, and David still gave directions and instructions on the trip to the Fieldhouse, while our Driver gave praises to Amedika and asked us if one of us could marry his sister so she too could come here and start taking hormone injections to lighten the color of her beard, or something to that effect. He was very hard to understand and smelled of old socks, embalming fluid and truffles.
I also found it nostalgic and interesting that the Pacemates were doing one of my old Tai Chi Ch'uan routines during a time out break, I was captivated to say the least (actually 'It good' would be more in line with saying the least, right ke mo sabi).

Once More, Over the Breech
I'm blank. Yesterday was a back breaker. The winter demo at Roberts, and all that entails, the phones, the customers all the reps. I didn't even get a chance to sit down or take the load off my aching feet until 2:30 when I got to take a lunch. By then I was starving and bitter with some of the clueless customers and just the general taxation that a demo of this size can put on one. Luckily I am on vacation after 4:31 today. Jenni and I are going to be doing a little traveling, but no major trip. I'm even bowling in both leagues, so I couldn't be going too far away, could I?
Speaking of bowling. Last night we the Mahogoff Bros. took on and were shredded by the Copies Plus team. Actually we had one real good showing the final game, and won that one by by 37 pins. That was my breakout game of the season, a 219, eclipsing the 184 I had earlier in the year. Rich had three games over his average, and Scott had a good night finishing 18 pins over his average for series. Will Andrichik, bowling in Jeff Moore's place wasn't able to get up to his average but was only 4 pins below it on his worst game. Annie Hood, Scott's girlfriend was there as the Beer B**ch (her term, not mine) even though she could not partake due to her pregnancy. So after the bowling Scott, Annie, Rich and I went to Wirty's World for some pool shooting, I did really well there too, and after about 90 minutes of that we all headed home.
Congrats to Ed Craig of Copies Plus fro a triumphant return to bowling after a motorcycle accident in the summer. Ed didn't practice one time during his recuperative period, but came out in Ed Craig form none the less, his high game was a match for mine 219, and he bookended that with 196 and 199 games, so that softens the blow a bit that we were bet by a real good guy and a natural bowler.
Now I prepare for the final day of the demo, and then vacation. I've got to go pull a hard eight before I can get off.

How About Those...
Dolphins? Beating the Monsters of the Midway. The key to their success was forcing and capitalizing on turnovers, and they gave Rex Grossman his worst day as a pro, and a quarterback rating of just over 30. This just may be a good thing for the Bears, a non division/non conference loss doesn't hurt nearly as much and makes them realize they are still vulnerable to their own mistakes or another team with a good game plan. How about those COLTS, they are pretty sure they are vulnerable, but always have enough drive and ambition to win. In the after game interview with Andrea Kramer (obviously a Hobbit) Peyton praised the entire team and especially the defense. He also mentioned yet another all time great catch by Marvin Harrison who extended to blip the ball, pull it in, plant the right foot and drag the left while controlling the ball and making a 'football move' cradling and rolling over on his back as he hit the turf out of bounds to demonstrate that he did have control. It was a thing of beauty, and a Marvin Harrison signature move. Marvin averaged just over 18 yards per catch, had two TD's and showed again why he and Peyton are the most prolific QB/WR tandem in the history of the game. Marvin was not the only star of the game. Cato June (2) and Bob Sanders both had interceptions of The Tom Brady, as did Antoine Bethea on the very first drive by the Pats. Raheem Brock also took the ball out of Corey Dillon's hands on the other take-away by the Colts, in all 5 turnovers by the Pats against 2 by the Colts and it was the Defense that everybody was talking about again, only this time without excuses or expletives in front of the word defense. Oh yeah, Peyton Manning. Peyton had his third consecutive 300+ yard game, a feat never done by Dan Marino. In fact the last Quarterback to have three consecutive 300+ yard games was Johnny Unitas in 1963, that's right the last one to do it was also a COLT, and that was 43 years ago. Want another one? The last team to start two seasons 8-0? The Green Bay Packers, who did it three years in a row, 1929-1931!

I got to watch the entire game. Jenni was at the bowling alley having another benchmark of sorts, another over 300 series, a high game of 122 and a 106 average. She was there with Mel, Rich and Will Andrichik. Other than a trip with Jenni to the grocery store early in the day, long before the games and the bowling, I let the BMW sleep. After Jenni went bowling I didn't even starte her up. I showed great restraint. Now I get to, I've got to go to work, you can bet I'll be smiling (and watching for those crazies out there with an eagle eye) all the way.

Adam, Tony and Jenni & Jo
Sunday Bowling: Once again I took no pictures (you thought prisoners?) Last night Mel 'N' Them bowled team #12, (The KnoyArnold Factor), we took all 8 points, Jenni had her first three games over 100 series for 328 (I expect the statisticians to verify this and get back to me), I missed a 500 by just 5 pins, Mel and Will pulled or knocked or cursed down enough pins that when the dust settled back into the oil patterns, we had won series by 81 pins.
Sunday Football and Racin': Kahne got into the wall and out of a chance to win the Championship, Tony Stewart took the victory. Adam Vinatieri booted three FG's to put the Colts on top at Mile HIgh, the last one with 2 seconds to go. Vinatieri is now 13-13 as a Colt on FG attempts, and he booted every Kick-off but one so deep that the Bronco's had to take the touchbacks. Gary Bracket was called for a lame Roughing the QB early, while last week Peyton was all but decapitated and there was no flag, I would like a little consistency here fellas.' Later a "Snake in the Grasp" call was overturned and the Colts actually won a fumble challenge. Then it was time to put on the bowlers glove and drive to the Alley with the radio playing the play by play commentary of B,b,b,b,bo,bob Lamie and Granpa' Ted.
The C,c,c, th, the boys, are, the, th, the C,Colts are Seven and 0, B,b,b,bob.

Jo strip
Jo e-mailed me these photos from the body building/fitness competition where she was 1st in her class and took home a trophy that comes up to her hips, I figure they work so hard and build up so they can take home the trophy, I mean literally, so they can lift and take home the trophy.
Friday Night Smack-down!
The day ended like the day began. Cold, dark and miserable. The Mahogoff Brothers bowling franchise came to play. Unfortunately the "Once in a While" team came to bowl. We won game one by 35 pins, with Scott and Jeff exceeding their league certified and verified average, Me falling one pin behind mine and Rich missing his by 17 pins. This is when we should have forfeited the final two, and gotten home early. {in Paul Harvey voice please:}GAME TWO: Scott misses his average by 28, Jeff falls short of his by 25 and I miss the mark(s) by 18, only Rich meets or beats the median indicator of his bowling ability at the particular given moment in time and space, with 13 over, and the tables have turned. It would not have mattered if we had all beat our averages by 25, we were spanked like bad children before the NEA came into power in the late 70's and discipline was more than just a word on a spelling bee. We lost game two by 169 pins, and inspired a generation or two our senior to thoughts of sock hops and soda fountains again. Jan Kelly, with a 137 average, and a league high game of 170 bowled a 181. Ray Spratt, carrying a 163 and a top notch of 206, sang "Anything you can do I can do better" from Annie Get Your Gun, with Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton (1946) to Jan, and rolled a 240. Tom Gunter their third bowler caught his average and squeezed two more pins out of it, and only Tony Carpenter, their anchor, who's about my age (the baby of their crew) failed to find his center by 22. I told Tony it looks like there are three anchors and one chain on your boat tonight, he said, "I know, I know." Final game, another team loss, a combined 29 pin shortfall (to tie). {Paul Harvey returns:}AND NOW YOU KNOW...

...the rest of the story. GOOD DAY!

Today there is a Store function at Jillian's, followed by a bonfire at Rich's, the annual Rich and Maddie burn shit up because we are older extravaganza. I will be working at the Store until the scheduled "fun" and I have every intention of going to Rich's too, unless the evil twin locked in Jenni's head starts making more trouble, then of course, I'll be there at the house with them both (I think there's only two in there right now).

Sports Sunday & a Post make-up
The best thing about Saturday for me was driving to and from work. I love to drive, I work to live. Work itself was not very inspirational. When I got home I was full of the aches and pains of too much life and not enough rest, I puttered on the computer for a few minutes, then decided to lay down for a bit after Jenni left for two hours of shopping release (her first 1/2 day without a vehicle in a long while), I never got back up, well not until 5:00 Sunday morning that is.
Today:
Football; Washington Redskins vs. The Colts. I'm hoping that Indy has figured our how to stop the run during the bye week. If not, look for Clinton Portis to have a minimum of 150 yards and a shot at 250. Jenni and I will be in route to the Bowling alley for the end of this contest.
RACIN'; MARTINSVILLE, Where Kasey Kahne lost his engine in April , finishing 35th, also where Kahne finished 2nd and Mark Martin 3rd in last years fall event. Jeff Gordon swept both races in' 05 and '03, but this is and even numbered year so....
Bowling; Tonight is Jenni's first night in the Sunday league, team Mel 'N' Them, Jenni and I are both there, I'm subbing for Will Andrichik, and Jenni is for David. So it's Andrichik's out tonight, Pace's in!
Other; Robert's newest employee Jo Mongan took home the trophy for best amateur female body builder in Louisville, KY last night. Congrats! Jo, now eat something for god's sake! Maybe we won't have to call Phil up front next time there is a security issue at the store.

Past business: Chatterbox, (where else?): Last Wednesday: Jenni is at one table when I arrive, with the help of Rich who drove me there in his Jeep. Jack Green is at another, and Rich sits there with him, Kay once again arrives with baked treats; now I don't know what sorority she cooks for at Butler, but her food is so good I would guess maybe Phi Theta Pachyderm. Kay takes another table, so we have taken three of the six tables on the patio proper, and there is a stranger (for the moment) sitting at the 4th, waiting for a couple of friends. Mel almost arrives, hovering just outside the legal premises to inhale the emissions resulting the burning of a paper tube filled with dried and treated plant leaves, and drawn into the bronchus through a porous cotton filament encased in a micro mesh plastic tube under a different colored paper held at or in the mouth during incineration. The locals call this smoking a cigar-ette (or miniature cigar) and apparently it is a custom to pay homage the indigenous peoples that have
'ho' Up
been supplanted by peoples from all the other continents. After the completion of the cigar-ette, Mel comes onto the patio and sits with Kay. Next one of the friends of the stranger at table 4 arrives, and after they have been talking awhile we draw them into conversation also, the later arrival is Natalie from Greenville, SC and her friend is Jen. Travis arrives and also honors the natives by incinerating a cigar-ette, Then we all get locked into a bender of a knee slapping pun cycle, until Mel puts a cap on it. Inside Jody and Maryanne are waiting for Kay, to give Vanessa, our bar maid a house warming gift they went in together to purchase. Rich leaves, Travis leaves and Jenni and I are getting ready to depart when John David makes a surprise guest appearance, we shoot the breeze a while but have to get home in time for Lost, hey, priorities.

So there is the missing post from Wednesday, now shut up about it!
Cardiac Colts
Three come from behind wins in a row. That's supposed to be good, right? Talk about a game where you wanted to leave at halftime. Luckily I had seen this show before. I stayed with my Colts through the bitter end, even though there was Talledega in HD at home. I did get to see the big ones, the 10 car pileup that took out the 24, and the tiny bump that will have Jimmie and Jr. fans seeing red for another year! Kahne finished 2nd and is still 185 points behind and in 9th! what the... well there are 6 left, a couple more meleé's like yesterdays and I think Kasey could have a top 5 season, three more and who knows?
O.K., back to the Dome. If the boys in blue hadn't come out of their coma's by the third quarter, I think the other run they couldn stop would be the fans running to the exits. I heard boos, I understood. I didn't join in but I understood. We've started to get our running game going, but can't get the others teams stopped. I don't know what it takes, but I do think that we are too concerned with the sack, and over running the play, Dwight Freeny! That said, Dwight did help the defense more this week, drawing the double and triple coverages.
I guess that what Mr. Sharpe said on Sunday Night Football in America is correct. At the end of the season, the Colts will (hopefully) be the #1 seed in the AFC, and it won't matter if they won game 5 by one or covered the 18 point spread.

18 to Go!
Colts Win. Peyton wins the Manning Bowl. The hype bowl. The Season opener. Hopefully 18 more games has us in the Superbowl, 15 more regular season, the Divisional game and the AFC championship, and finally the Big One! Of course I know not to get too set on the idea, just like Tony Stewart not making the chase, I know that all of this is subject to chance and fate, and intangibles like injury or mechanical failure.
Still, a boy can dream, can't he?
Jenni brought home the second season of Lost last night, and we watched the outakes/extras bonus disc while Jenni sat nursing a tooth ache. Which is why I am flying solo at the box tonight. I was kidding about the Zen thing yesterday (at least the me in this quantum stream, the infinite others may have different opinions, who knows? Schródinger? I actually exist only because I have so many friends and family that I love and I can't wait to see some of them tonight.
The Others: Happy birthday to Rebecca Martin and Joe George, we asked Rebecca if she had plans tonight, and sadly she does, so...
screw her. Maybe we'll call Joe in Florida and wish him a sober birthday, fat chance.

Racin' and Wine'n
KLD_wineguy
Yesterday started like so many of my days off. With me not having to go to work (well wage winning work anyway). Friday at work i got a call from the Bloomington Store and talked to Kevin Davis of said. Kevin also works on the weekends at Oliver Winery near Bloomington. I asked if he was indeed working on Sunday, he said from 1:00 to 6:00, So Jenni and I decided to make a pilgrimage to Oliver for wines and picnic snacks, we did just that and ended up purchasing 6 bottles of our favorites including 3 of the Viognier 2005. Sure to be a favorite at the Pace household for months to come. Due to the "holiday" weekend, the tasting room was overflowing when we arrived at around 2:45, we waited until we could get Kevin to guide us through the wines. We liked just about everything we tasted, based upon Kevin's recommendations.
goslings and crew
The Viognier, one of Kevin's personal favs was not even on my "try" list, but a personal vouchsafing from the Kevmeister and it ends up being the #1 with a cork (you were expecting bullet?). The 2004 Shiraz was also much less acidic than the ones I have tried from the Box, and through grocery store aisle experimentation. After sampling 8 different selections we settled on four different tastes, for different tastes. I purchased the wines, Jenni bought some picnic items, and Oliver Winery had a very profitable visit from chuckpace.com and my muse, the missus.
goosed
"None Shall Pass," said the Black Knight! (Besides, it's only a flesh wound)

wine country
Then we headed down toward the pond and picnic area with some hummus, fresh french bread, cheese and two Boyland Beverages (Cane Cola and Root Beer), at the pond was a Goose family, mother, father and two goslings. Mother Goose was quite Grimm if anyone venture to close to the kiddies, I went down to get some photos and she sternly warned me off, hissing and charging. Then we headed home, I did a little gardening and mowed the lawn, planted some peppers, and watered the whole lot. Then Jenni and I sat outside and watched the Nascar race from the back yard (through the patio doors, and with the laptop, receiving a fine signal from the LINKSYS wireless in the chuckpace.com world
Racin'
headquarters. I finished second, with the same drivers I had two weeks ago and did so very poorly with. I purchased more transactions, but decided to "let it ride" since I though I had a pretty good crew, turns out I was right. After my favorite driver Kasey Kahne won his third race of the season, and did his interviews, I swithched over to the delayed Indy 500 coverage and watched the end of that as well. What a great finish. A good day for Jenni, and I and the dozen or so mosquitos i fed from the back yard after the sun went down. Todays menu? What else, gardening. and yard work. Why spend one minute more than necessary inside when the whole wide world is just a sliding screen door away?

I've Got the Next Round
Pam and Reggie
David Andrichik, Rich and I attended the final regular season game of the PACERS last night against the Orlando Magic. It was a magical evening alright, they won and are in the playoffs. Rich and I bought Playoff Tickets for the second home game and are taking David since he didn't buy playoff tickets this year and has been our host for countless trips to Conseco over the years. At the game we saw an artist, Pam I think her name was, creating a large mural at the base of the escalators on the East side of the Arena, she was adding Indiana's most prolific player, and all time three point champion #31 Reggie Miller and was doing a great job. She told me she had already been working at Reggie's portrait for over 20 hours when we arrived. Since it was the final regular season game, there were posters and yearbooks and even Mugs (provided by Miller Lite) which lit up when you poured a liquid of choice into them. We had to test this immediately upon our return to the Chatterbox. Don't just ask for a Lite ask for a Mug Light.

mug-light
At the Chatterbox, where we were met by Travis DiNicola, representative of Young Audiences of Indiana. Every year for the past eight or more, Young Audiences has been bringing the Philadelphia based Tap Team Two to Indiana to perform at schools and venues around central Indiana. They have also been making appearances at the Chatterbox with The Dick Dickinson Jazztet during those visits. Tap Team Two are, as you might guess a two person tap dancing team; hoofers Corinne Karon and Robert Burden. Corinne has the singular distinction of being the only Tap Dancer documented to have Tap danced on every continent including Antarctica. The show was very good, and caused me to be quite late getting home. Before I left I acquainted Robert and Corinne with "The Freckled Neckline" which is a drink created by the Chatterbox's own Vanessa. With the Pacemates, Tap Team Two and even the Pacers making the first round of the next big dance I saw a lot of hoofing last night. Let's hope the Pacers can last more than one round.

Bowling Rap-Up #1
Spare Parts
Spare Parts without any parts to spare. Chuck Pace ©2006
We are all but done with the Winter and Spring Bowling. Last night we played our last 10 for 10 game. My Team "Spare Parts" (Mel Shoffner, Jenni Pace, -insert vacant player here- and Myself), was up against the first place team in the league "The Chatterbowlers" (Mike Wilson, David Andrichik, Will Andrichik and Rich Culy) and we were trailing them by only one point. They came out in the first game and mopped the floor with us, took no prisoners, and even smacked our mammys! They beat us down, beat us up and beat us by 73 pins, and that was the only game I got to my average. The second game Mike Wilson and David Andrichik both faltered and also failed to reach their averages (along with Mel and I on my team) and we were able to win by 14 pins with another strong showing from Jenni (and a consistent game from our ghost). The all crucial third game, the proverbial marbles. Mel was having none of it. She was bound and determined to get her smacked mammys dignity back. She stepped up to the plate (there are no plates in bowling, except the paper plates that we eat our pizza off of, this is a metaphorical plate), took her best pitch (this has gone from metaphorical plates, to baseball illusionary) and fired a home run capturing her highest game in league play, a 196. That and Jenni's third straight 100+ game (a first for Jenni as well) was enough to cancel my abysmal 17 pin below average final, terminal league game. bowling record
Team Scorecard with Jenni's 112,112 and 106 score: Chuck Pace ©2006
We WON. We won the Tuesday 10 for 10 League. We won Sport Bowl/League #324! That is a part of Bowling History Now. Really. On Saturday, at 11:00 AM the final act of Winter Bowling. The first and second place teams in each 10 for 10 league (12 in all) plus a "Wild Card" team, play Three Games for highest score, (and prizes and general mirth), the team with the highest pin count with handicap after 3 games wins, well, those 1000 marbles, valued at $1.00 each (and presented in paper money form actually), to be distributed among the team as they see fit.
daisy_doris
*Doris McQuain from the Roberts mail-order department arrived for the final game and at least a half dozen Bud Selects, she slammed those pretty quick and then did a table dance in her yard-work daisy dukes. I was very distracting to say the least. Perhaps that's why I bowled a 117 final game.
Rich, Will, David and I all have qualified on more than one team, and will be dividing our efforts to maximize earnings potential, each team has to have two original members, so we will field 3 teams Mel and Jenni will represent "Spare Parts" (with two league approved subs), Will and I will represent "Chatterbowlers I" (with subs) and David and Rich will round out the field representing "Chatterbowlers II" also with subs. It should be grand fun, and for one team (hopefully one of these three) A Grand of fun! Now I've got to put on pants, and go to work.

Tonight David Andrichik, Rich and I are attending the final regular season game of the PACERS, and hope to usher them into a play-off berth with a victory. Go Pacers.

*Author's note: There was only two Bud Selects consumed, and no Table dancing, since the Chatterbowlers team had their beers on that table too, and Mike Wilson didn't wan any spills. He said that would make it another "Expensive Beer Night!"

Are You Kidding Me? You Must Be Kidding Me? Chuck Pace © 2006

So I often wake up with an obscure song in my head. This morning, from the first alarm, showering, dressing all the way through sitting down just now to postulate on posting, it's been, "Space Junk" by DEVO. An infectious little ditty, that makes your toes tap and your joy buzzer buzz. With DEVO you'll get a grin, again and again. Without falling from Grace, I would have to say, They're Righteous Dudes, Ed.

"
Space Junk"
Gerald V. Casale, Bob Mothersbaugh

She was walking all alone
Down the street in the alley
Her name was Sally
She never saw it
When she was hit by space junk
In New York Miami Beach
Heavy metal fell in Cuba
Angola Saudi Arabia
On xmas eve said norad
A soviet sputnik hit Africa
India Venezuela (in Texas
Kansas)
It’s falling fast Peru too
It keeps coming
And now I’m mad about space junk
I’m all burned out about space junk
Oooh walk & talk about space junk
It smashed my baby’s head
And now my Sally’s dead

Last night the balls were flying and the approaches were slick, all of the Spare Parts were working well together, Jenni reached her goal twice in the same night! But before all of that happened we had to go to the bowling alley and compete in our 10 for 10 league. My team "Spare Parts" were playing a group of well mannered, polite guys with the well conceived name 1, which coincides with their league starting night team assignment on day one. To think I often stew for upwards of 5 minutes about the naming of a new bowling team. These guys just seized the obvious and squeezed the essence out of it by doing nothing. ZEN dudes. Very Zen.
So anyway I'm off on a tangent, focus. Focus.
Jenni bowled a 67 first game, and I started coaching like I actually was a good bowler or some stuff, and she was able to reach her first goal, a game over 100. In fact she had two games of 101 each after the sizzling.., er fizzling start! Next goal (bowling again) a true 300 series, back to back to back 100+ games. Swell. David Sherry was not therry so Skippy Barber came to our rescue with a descending grouping that, well, mystified at times. times. Starting with 147, 128 and a walloping 93. That's o.k. we won 5 points, but surrendered the final game by 33 pins. Good enough to get us back in second place, four points behind the Chatterbowler (version 3.0) monsters. Mike Wilson also had an up and down night (at least at the bowling alley) starting with a 207 then a stellar collapse to 111, his final score was somewhere between, but I didn't record it for prosperity of anything else. Mel is off to a conference today, and will not be bowling on the Friday Night league, so Jeff Barber is subbing there too. We are soooo in last place there that nothing can make us better or worse, but we bowl on. I loaned Mel my Nikon Coolpix 950, to get some blackmail shots of her bosses in action. Not until I was handing it over in the parking lot of the bowling alley did I realize I had left the memory card on the desk at the www.chuckpace.com World Headquarters. Luckily, Rich was able to pull a rabbit out of his hat and provide her with the needed memory. If I had better memory, then , um, ...
So I'll be 46 on Friday April 14th, that's the night of the winter league pay-out and a chance to split the losers till six ways with my "Four Get It!" teamers! I'll be heading to the Chatterbox to spend my pittance on, wait I remember, I know this one. Corona's. Remember only 1 month remains, 26 shopping days until April 14th.

Vegas Baby!

I wonder how many hits you get if you Google that. Let's see. I'm back, the results? It said about 22,600,000. A well used expression. Well the Nascar Nextel Cup teams are set to do Vegas Baby. My guess is that Darrell Waltrip will say Vegas Baby more times than I have already before the green flag waves the first time! I've never been to Vegas, or El paso, or much of anywhere. I'm just a hayseed livin' in central Indiana.
What a beautiful day, perfect spring-like weather. It got over 70° today, so I spent a lot of time outside doing yard clean-up and just enjoying t-shirt weather, I think I even got a sunburn on my ears! Jenni and I even went cruisin' with the sunroof open and the windows down. Then we came home in time to grill out before the Nascar Race.
Not knowing exactly how long we would be gone we made our Nascar picks before we left. I'm hoping for a big showing today. I need to finish better than 23rd. The race is on, I will be back soon!
Post Race Follow-up!
So I cracked the top 10 for the first time. Tied for 9th at Vegas. I moved up two places in the league.
I can't believe another Green, White, Checker finish. Congrats to Jimmie Johnson and the Lowe's team. I wonder if there will be a normal finish this year?

Going to a Rollers Show
Last night the chatterbowlers were unopposed, we bowled the vacant, vaporous visage of the 6th team. We kicked the diaphanous derrieres. David Andrichik subbing for his father Wil, was a bowler possessed. A 192, opening engagement, followed by a seven in-a-row strike rampage and a 247 game and capped by a very respectable 153. David missed a 600 series by only 8 pins. I had two good games and a real stinker, Rich had two weak games and a good finisher and David Beuke, who will be replaced by David Andrichik for the final three outings because of a change in work schedule had his best series of the fledgling turned middle aged 10 week league with a 504 (167 avg.). I bet that unopposing team wishes they'd never even showed up now!

I've come down with a nasty bug am stuffed up, queasy, and phlegmy but I must soldier on. Tonight Jenni and I are judging an art exhibition (without the exhibitionists in front of us I might add) for our good friend an community pillar Pam Walker. I can't say exactly where, but there were once Bearcats roaming freely in the structure where we will be exposed to things artistic. There is also a risk of exposure to meal and a libation or two. I will be very cautious and open minded at the same time. On a personal level, I have yet to display the Nicci painting, I have to prepare a shrine, fast, and center my psyche first, or decide on a place to hang it. I have no news other than that. chuck Out.

March Maddness
I had my new camera on my hip all day yesterday and I never took one shot. I guess I overcompensated on Monday for not having one and am now getting back into my normal imaging capturing frameset.
Speaking of overcompensation. Last night kegeling exercises proved to be most futile and disturbing for me. I started out and accomplished one of my goals, bowling the nights highest score for either team a 184. Spare parts won that 1st game by 47 pins. Game over, pack your bags, put your street shoes on, it's over. The Tuesday Night Chatterbowlers kicked our humble rear areas after game one. Took the next two and series, knocked our books off our desks and took our lunch money. Both teams had their roster completing 4th person added last night. For Spare Parts it was David Sherry and for the Chatterbowlers, Mike Wilson. Both bowlers claimed to be not very good. David came away with a 109 average, o.k. for a first timer. Mike struggled a little in the first game, then found his rhythm in the final two, ending the night with highest series (503) and a 167 average (not to mention all of our lunch money!). How many times have you heard the phrase, "It's always the quiet ones?" Dang, did we get Munsoned! I was in a foul mood from my personal bowling collapse and can only blame myself. Tonight will be different. I'll shine like a new penny.
Speaking of Foul Moods.
NHsunshine
I picked up my Nicci painting last night, but didn't even uncrate it after the bowling fiacso. I have to find a "perfect" spot for it tonight or tomorrow, then all will be right with the world again. The picture is from Monday night, when I was given an ultimatum, not to take another photo of the Artist. That look is one that many of us know too well (am I hearing weather sirens in the background? Early Warning System?). That's alright, we all love Nicci (or else), and I now own two of her paintings.

The new Elvis Costello, My Flame Burns Blue is now available on iTunes. This goes very well with a wearable chuck baseball jersey in black and white, I might add. Time to see what trouble I can get into today, I'm not being have (long A) Meredith.

Race Day (pt. 1)
The big day is at hand. The longest sports season begins (yes even longer than Hockey). Already ARCA, IROC and the two smaller divisions of Nascar have taken to the track in Daytona and crowned their winners. Mark Martin in the Craftsman Trucks and Tony Stewart in the Busch series (both cup drivers you might notice). Today the Turkey Fryers Fantasy leaqgue convenes at the super secret location (Rich's house, ooops!) for the first race, a share of 5 deep fryed Turkeys and a few hours of pure escapism. When I sat down to prepare this post I checked the Turkey Fryers League (yesterday I hoped to get 20). An even 20 teams are now signed up and it is just past midnight, Sunday morning. By sign-up deadline (1 hour before the green flag flys) we could have 25 teams or better. I will post again later in the day, after I get home and give an accounting of who all was at the suareé. With a bunch of new teams on the track, and in the Fantasy league, it will be difficult keeping it all sorted out for a while. But I will try.

Race Day (pt. 2)

02/19/2006 10:26 PM Chummin'Spurts

The big day is over. Jimmie Johnson is the newest victor at the "Superbowl of Autoracing" the Daytona 500. He managed to win without his cheating crew chief, or the "Big One' taking out the major competitors. There was a Green, White , Checkered finish again because them good ol' boys jus' love to wreck up them cars. I especially liked Jimmie whining about all the #48 haters on his victory interview. I think they should give him time to change his tampax before they interview him. That way he doesn't come off as such a big bitchy crybaby. I just won the most important race of my life, but some people think that my team being caught cheating and being penalized for the umpteenth time in four years is a bad thing and don't like us. If only Chad were here we could cry together and hug and then get our nails done with 48's and sparkelies. Seems liked I've managed to come in second or third in the championship, but better drivers mith more points always seem to win. Waaa. "After all the trouble this team has and all the criticism, I'm dedicating this win to the haters of the 48 team."

The Party at Rich's was great we had a great turn out. Twenty one of us including myself. Rich deep fried 6, 12 poundish Turkeys and everyone suffered from gluttony of one sort or another. Mel made enough deviled eggs to gas a small Kurdish village on the Iraqi border, and there was enough food to feed an army of Jody Grobers and Little Joey Bulas (fyi: one of each makes up an army). John Qualkenbush and his son John Ivan were there and I was most envious of John Ivan's toys. I'm thinking about registering at Toys' R' Us" so that my loyal fans can buy me birthday presents (April 14th). The attendies at the party were Rich, Maddie and Guy,
travissupermanMel
Jody and MaryJane, John Q and John Ivan, Kay, John David, Richard Plath, Mike Wilson, Little Joey Bula, Mel, Eddie, Pam, Jeff Jeffries and his daughter Georgia and Jeff's roommates daughter Rachel, Jenni and myself. That is a small (well fed) army. The Fantasy league was at 24 people when the green flag fell. What fun. What drama, what a poor looser, I mean winner whiner.
I was taking Kay and John David's picture and someone's little buddy jumped into the frame being a mention whore, right after I was taking a picture of Travis as Mel jumped into that shot (being the same mention who.. mistress).

On a Roll
Tonight is bound to be a Four Get It kind of night. I have missed the last two bowling outings and am raring to go. Last week neither Ed or myself were able to bowl (neither were our rostered alternates Travis and Jeff) leaving just Rich and Mel to represent. Well It was neck and neck, but they were able to maintain the teams sizable gap back from 13th place and keeps us in the "got 'em right where we want them" position.

Yesterday they ran the "twins" at Daytona (no not Avery and Abigale Churchill silly, but they are sure to be fast in another 15 to 18 months, with a father like Lightnin') and now the field is set for the 500. They also had Truck qualifying and Mark Martin has his first ever Pole in a Craftsman Truck race. Which is tonight. Since we are on the subject of Nascar Racin', there are some of our regular Fantasy league peeps still holding out, JennTenn, Lightnin, Memoirs and BestRacegirl among others, and the promised new blood is still stuck in the inspection line apparently. Ed, John David? Bueller? Bueller?
This years 500 marks the 5th anniversary of the passing of Dale Earnhardt at wheel of the #3, known as the Intimidator and the "Man in Black," Dale shares the unique distinction of having won 7 Nascar Cup Championships. I can think of no better time to honor the Man in Black, than on Black History Month. He changed the sport, brought millions of viewers in to cheer or jeer, and always kept the suspense high at a track. Earnhardt fans, though they lost their legend still have someone to cheer for, Kerry. Have a great race weekend fans and we'll see you tomorrow for another gripping episode of as the Stomach Turns. Oh, wait there is another Earnhardt I forgot to mention, probably the most influential survivor of Dales passing, Theresa. Who kept together a multi-car opperation, in the wake of her legendary husbands passing. Here's to the entire Racing Earnhardt family (yes, even Beavis, er... Jr.)

Being the Spankers
Team Chatterbowlers were at it again last night. It appears that no one is safe when we bowl on Wednesday. At least not the Pond's ( the very nice family that was in second place to us
alleyghosts
going into the second night of competition.) I had a 533 series, Rich missed a 600 by three pins, and had a spectacular 236 1st game. Zack Pond, a high school junior (I think) with a 181 average entering the league and I both missed 200 games by one pin, and Rich missed a second 200 game by 2 pins. After the balls were back in the returns and the pins reset, the smoke cleared and we took all 7 points for the second week in a row. We reside in the lofty tower of 1st place 5 points ahead of 2nd place Fireballs. The Foul Language guys are in third a full 7 point behind us, ad we bowl against them next week. I'm not talking trash here but we are going to USE Foul Language next week, baby! (O.K. I was talking trash, but in a friendly competitive sort of talking trash way. ) Maybe we can all just get along, and have a good time, and the points won't matter (oops, channeling evil blonde beauty pageant spirits, maybe it has something to do with the alley ghosts photo above!), Screw that, we will prevail at all costs!

Not much else happened yesterday. I went to lunch with Rich and Mike Wilson at Giorgios, and ran some errands, including picking up "Cell", the new Stephen King, and "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon. Remember I buy books quickly, I read them slowly, so don't expect a review any time soon on the King. I'm still reading a couple of other books right now anyway, with a dozen back to hold me over until the next frenzy!

The Spanking Game
Pasted Graphic
Bowling Action at the Sport Bowl. 1/6/06. Chuck Pace ©2006

Jenni and I had an interesting day yesterday. Monday night the Truck flooded, and would not start when we left the Chatterbox, so yesterday morning Jenni and I drove in together, still couldn't get the cursed thing to start and ended up having it towed into Goodyear, for diagnostic and recharging. They got it to start, and found nothing else wrong so I gave them $129.00 and we drove back the the Chatterbox for (and as) a couple before home and then bowling. It started fine both times. Brandon and Jessica were at Box, Brandon told me that Travis is there every time he is, so I waited a few minutes to see Liz and Travis, and indeed they did show. They were house hunting again. (I don't know how you get a permit to hunt houses, or what you 'bag' them with, but I know it's expensive. Really expensive. )

Bowling: Last night of the Tuesday Night 10 for 10 bowling league. We have 3rd place sewn up if we win one game. In comes Foul Language again. Theses guys are on a mission. With their big handicap they spank us poor Chatterbowlers soundly in game one 923 to 803! (This while I bowled a 204 and David A. bowled a 186). Their team bowled 175 pins over average, we bowled 40 over and got smoked. Game two was my worst, 27 pins under average, but we won that one by 4 pins and last game by over a hundred pins, but still lost series by 6 pins. I've never seen a team bowl the way they did in the first game. By the 7th frame Rich and I started calling them Pod People. We were pretty sure it was a body snatcher thing. Jeff Meko almost got his first ever 200 game, he had a X in the 9th, but couldn't follow with a mark in the 10th. It was a fun night.
The foul language crew is on the Wednesday night 10 for 10 also, like us they have their core of 3 regulars, and a different 4th. We don't play them this week, but will twice in the league, probably. We are in 1st place in this new league. They are in a 2 way tie for 2nd with the Pond's team we play tonight. I will (obviously) keep you posted.

'Nuther Friday Foller Up

What the hell is wrong in this picture? Chuck Pace ©2006

Well, last night should have been a much better night at the bowling arena. Our opponents were short handed to begin with. Missing one of the bowlers, and another was ill and did not bowl the last game. So we should have had a clear advantage. Four Get It won the first game by 24, then the Once in a While team kicked in and beat us by 32 in game two. We trailed the entire third game, but closed in to "Striking Distance" by the tenth frame, The two remaining bowlers on that team had superb games, one 26 pins over average, the other 19 over. But both were open in the tenth. Then Rich spared then opened too, I had to get 26 pins to tie, and only then because I was following a spare. First ball. Strike. Second. Strike, pressure is on, the other team is all looking, One of them says keep it between the gutters and you got us. Well that's easy to say, but I had just had two consecutive frames (the 7th and 8th) where I got 6 pins on the first ball, so my delivery had started to go from fatique. I knew it was not a given. Third ball, I had to wait for the bowlers on the next lane over, stood there concentrating, then winged the ball down, slightly off my mark, but good enough to take 9 pins out and a 3 point victory. If Rich had converted two marks in the tenth we probably would have taken series, as it was we only lost that by 5 pins. Still a good outing for the crew. Mel was over her average by about as much as Ed was under his so that was a wash. Rich and I were both comfortably over our averages which are almost the same. I had a 512 series to beat Rich's 511. I also won two of the three "card games, with Rich taking the second "preordained" card game with a hand tailored especially for him across the river Styx. Then there is the Side Pots. There is a "Strike Pot" that you can get into for a $1.00, with my average I can miss 3 out of 14 required strikes for the evening. You have to let the front desk know if you are still "in" by the end of the second game, I've never had to let them know I was still in until last night. I told our team president Sue Riley that I would probably blow it in the 2nd frame of game three, after I informed John at the counter that I was in. She gave me a blessing, and said I'd be fine. But I was wearing a blessing teflon Hawaiian shirt apparently, because I did indeed go "out" on that frame by missing the required strike. Still I had 15 strikes for the evening. So call it a night right? edballtrouble
Eddie studies the lay of the table. You're stripes, Ed. Chuck Pace ©2006

Pam Walker and Maddie Tucker both showed up during the third game to watch us barely prevail, so after the contests were completed uncontested we had to choose between the Chatterbox or a nearby bar with pool tables and dart machines. I didn't really want to go downtown again, neither did Maddie, so darts or pool was the conclusion. The bar was packed when we arrived, with a party going on by and in front of two of the three dart machines, so darts was out of the question. Of the seven pool tables, 5 were taken and two out of commission. After ten minutes of deliberation Maddie decided to go home, the rest of us decided to finish our drink and follow suit, but then a table opened up and I claimed it. I won the first three games before surrendering the table, it was only Ed, Rich and I shooting, Pam and Mel were watching from anear. In all I won 6 games, Ed 1 and Rich 5 before I left. So I left a winner there too.
frygoatee_sm

At work on Friday? Not much, happening just Lightnin' complaining that Rich wins at everything he gets involved in. I guess Lightnin' forgot that Travis won the inaugural Mention Meter competiton. Lightnin' should remember that, he snuck into the award presentation photo. If Lightnin had been at the bowling alley or pool hall he would have been cheering for me, because I beat Rich in series. I also took a Soda bath at lunch when Jenni and I joined Rich and Wilson at Penn Station. Now I'll always wonder if I shouldn't pour Pepsi down the front of my pants and into my leadoff sock four hours before I bowl, just to get that extra edge? Nah, I'm not superstitious. Not at all. No really. Tomorrow I will tally the Mention Meter again, to see if Wilson (seen modeling a Fry goatee), Lightnin' and Travis have closed any ground on the leaders.

Big Bad Day
Well Sports Fans, you've got to suspect that it's not going to be your day when you spill a $ 6.50 Butterface Ale before the game even starts.
playofftix06
The Colts got closer than I felt they deserved, and even had a chance to force overtime at the end. They played dismally for over 2 1/2 quarters of a game that was officiated horribly, though the calls or lack of calls were equally awful on both sides of the ball. Indy failed to capitalize on penalties and missed calls because of poor execution and a very rattled Peyton Manning (8/15 91 yards in the first half). Pittsburgh was "screwed on a pass interference no call early on, and a reversal of an obvious interception by Polamalu late in the game. Still, Indy's inability to move the ball, and Pittsburgh's better game plan eventually forced a 46 yard Vanderjagt Field Goal attempt with 21 seconds left to tie for overtime. No good, wide right. Game.
The best parts of the day? The beer guy saying that Phil was really Buddy Holly, Phil wearing a Greg Lloyd jersey in honor of the devastating hit on Jim Harbaugh in the 1996 AFC Championship game (Jim and to have peices of a broken tooth removed from his lip before he returned to the game) or the Dirty Helen Ale I drank when I got home and didn't spill a drop of. Or is it Gary Brackett forcing a Jerome Bettis fumble which Nick Harper ran back to the Pittsburgh 42 that got the Colts their (failed) FG attempt. (I think its the beer, I only had about an ounce of the game beer pre-spill).
I don't know if Danielle's is funny to anyone else, but her knife wielding skills had Nick in stitches for the whole game. What would have happened if Nik had been able to run at peak speed? Would Big Ben Rothlisberger have been able to catch him? Would he have gotten a few more much needed yards and aided Vanderjagt's attempt to tie the game? It's easy to speculate on what ifs, the real answers are the what happened, and what happened is the O- line allowed 5 sacks, Peyton was rattled in the post season (again) and despite two good drives in the final minutes of the game Indianapolis was outplayed. Pittsburgh deserves to move on to the AFC Championship in Denver next weekend.

Big Day One
Playoffs-cl_60824
Now I degrade into the classic raving sports nut. This is a good day to be that, this is the day that matters, the first one (of three) I hope. This is why you win 14 Games to get home field advantage through the playoffs. This is Football Fever. This is also when you find out if you need a bigger band wagon, or if its time to park the one you've got. This is where I have to comment that I've always been with the band.

I can pull out 52 of my old ticket stubs, show my Matt Bouza, Barry Krauss, Fredd Young, O.J. Anderson, Rohn Stark, Jack Trudeau, Ron Meyers, Ted Marchibroda, Jim Mora, Jevon Kearse, Chad Bratkze and Marvin Harrison autographs. (some of you may have gone, oh yeah, that old guy on the radio and Marvin, there were a couple of names I know, I see, Well, that' exactly right Baub). I could talk about how Meredith and I were in the audience for the very first taping of the Jim Harbaugh Show (he shook her hand and complimented her and she turned hot pink and was flushed for the entire drive home, she was nine years old, and commented on how handsome another man was other than her daddy was for the first time, and I came in second). How I went to the Airport when the Indianapolis Colts beat the Dolphins in Miami for the first time, or that I was in two Colts TV commercials in the mid- 90's. Show off the Blue horseshoe tattoo I've got just above my heart or the Jacket I bought in 1995 (I wear it daily during the non-summer months wether we're 1-15, 8-8 of 14-2 that football season). I have done all that, there's so much more, but I've got that out of the way. I could be on the field today assisting The Sporting News during the game (I've assisted for four games in the past decade plus, and been in the owners box for the Patriots game in 1993) but I passed on that I have to Cheer, and yell and go nuts at the game, I can't be working and not getting to soak up the experience, at least not for a Playoff Game! Jeff Moore is getting to assist on the Field today.
PITPhil Gibson (in a Steelers Jersey, jacket and hat) andINDI (True Blue to my toes) will be in section 112, row 28 seats 5 and 6 enjoying and screaming and being Fans today and everyday! Here's to needing a bigger wagon. I'll return to do a follow up and Mention Meter update after the game.

Another Weak Start
Can it already be the second Monday of 2006? There are a lot of songs that deal with Monday, and not to many are optomistic. Now that there's no Monday Night Football I can understand. But...

This last weekend I watched a lot of football. Four Playoff games. Four teams advance, four go home. Just that simple, I don't have to do a 5 minute John Madden diatribe here about how the elimination process works, do I? Now here's two teams see, and this is a playoff game see, so these two teams, these 90 players, see, ...nah.
In a nutshell, it's the Chin again! Pittsburgh comes to Indy next Sunday for a 1:00 kickoff.

Yesterday I didn't post anything. I didn't go to the Chatterbowl event either. I spent much of the day with Jenni. I bought her The Sunday Chicago Tribune, The Star, Roses and a Card. I made my pork chops for dinner and we watched a little Football. She had a hair appointment at 11:00 AM and wasn't back home until just before 1:00 PM. After the first half of the NFC wild card game I put the play-by-play of Eli and the Giants getting destroyed on the laptop
dirty_helen
and we watched The Brothers Grimm, directed by Terry Gilliam. After The Brothers Grimm she had to run to a former co-workers house and deliver a painting. By the time she returned the chops were done and we ate, just Jenni, Dirty Helen and I. I picked Dirty Helen up at a grocery store last week and we became fast friends. She reminds me of Honey Brown, whom I haven't seen since David kicked her out of the Chatterbox years ago. Then there was the AFC game. Like I said it's the Chin again.
Now I mentioned Monday songs, and I know a lot of Monday Morning quarterbacks too. I think the chorus of this song works for both (out of context of course).

Colts,Bolts and Bumper Cams
The Colts were definitely outplayed yesterday, the better team won. Game plan and execution on both sides of the ball belonged to Drew Brees and the Chargers. Well I think it's better to get that first loss under their belts now. They don't want to have a post season loss, that's the real undefeated streak to worry about. Lose when it's only a stat and not the end of your season. Now the Colts can stop worrying about perfection and get a SuperBowl ring. Play to win in the post season, that was one of the season's goals get to and win the whole thing. The '98 Brocno's started 13-0 and finished the regular season 14-2 but every man on the team got a SuperBowl ring. They can start Manning to keep the consecutive starts record alive, like the did with Brett Favre a few years ago, then pull him after a couple of series. Let's see what Jim Sorgi can do.

bumpertag
Marion County Sheriff's Front Bumper, Bumped! Chuck Pace ©2005

On another note last Thursday as Jenni and I were getting up and preparing to go to work I heard a sound that could only be one car thumping into the back of another, a traffic accident. This was at around 6 AM. We went about our business and got ready, walked the dog and such and could see that a Sheriff had somebody in a large truck pulled over as we left the neighborhood. Not until we were across from the accident scene did we see that the Sheriff was the one who had hit the truck, and hard enough to knock the cover off of his front bumper. There was no skidding sounds or squeeling of tires prior to the thump, so I have to assume the sheriff was not paying attention to the road, but was distracted and looked up too late to avoid the stopped or slower vehicle. Too bad for the truck driver, though. I'm sure he got a ticket. Still that's the fastest I ever saw a Sheriff arrive at an accident scene. The bumper cover is still out there, should we add littering to the list of offenses?

Six Shopping Days left until Festivus. Remain calm, be happy and don't make any sudden moves, and we will all get through this o.k., O.K.?

Horseshoe Heads
page0_blog_entry547_3They just keep getting better and better. The Colts are so good that the other teams are getting frustrated and starting to loose their composure and getting stupid penalties. Like Jacksonville's #98 Henderson banging a Colts players helmeted head into the ground four times after a play was over. Unbelievably, he was not ejected!
Cowher1
Or Jack Del Rio getting a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for dressing down the side judge. Composure boys, composure. Two weeks ago I thought Bill "The Jaw" Cowher's bottom lip was going to consume his entire head, and I'm sure we all saw the spit spraying from his mouth as he exorcised his ire upon his players!

page0_blog_entry547_3Now to the Colts records and Milestones!
The Colts are only the fourth team in History to start 13-0
Peyton Manning now owns all of Marino's records.
Peyton is the Only QB to ever have over 3000 yards passing for eight consecutive seasons.
The Colts are the only team in history to beat 13 of their opponents (all of them so far) by 7 or more points in a season.
Marvin Harrison became the 12th player in history to top 12,000 yards receiving in a career.
Marvin and Peyton continue to add to the all time tandem hook-up TD record, now at 94 with 2 today.

Here we go then.1:00 PM In Jacksonville Florida. A lot warmer place than Indy!
A great place to go 13-0 and farther into the record books. Peyton and company can clinch a bye and home field advantage through-out the play-offs with a victory today.

Who would have thought that Indianapolis would have the best defense in the AFC possibly the NFL They lead the league in sacks with 39, and have allowed the second fewest points (162).

People talk about how Tony Dungy is a defensive guy, because of the way the Tampa Bay Bucs played defense when he was their coach. Actually he is just a really good coach, and has surrounded himself and his team with other great coaches. Tom Moore has the gift of working with and scripting plays for the penultimate Quarterback Peyton Manning. Coach Moore has said that he doesn't call the plays he makes several situational suggestions and Peyton is free to chose from those, or call something completely different if he sees fit. Still, Moore tries to take the blame for bad calls or decisions, but Peyton usually takes the blame on himself, as the field General! I've been reading NFL Network's Adam Shefter's blog on the Colts for the past few days, on NFL.com and he seems to be more an more in awe of the colts each post.

As I stated yesterday I will not see this game until I get home and rewind the tape. I have to work. I will divide my time between the radio and customers.

Post Game Notes and Update
page0_blog_entry547_312-0 Baby.

Peyton had a QB rating of 151.3, with 3 TD's, 0 Int's. 13/17 187 yards.

Passing Touchdowns: #1 to Marvin Harrison (his 108th career TD), #2 to Tight-end Brian Fletcher, his 3rd TD and 3rd game in a row with same, # 3 to Reggie Wayne as the crowd started chanting Reggie, Reggie, Reggie. Reminiscent of the Pacers Reggie Miller's standout career and those fans.

Edgerrine James rushed for over 100 yards again (107) and into the record books for the 2nd fastest back to 9000 yards at 93 games.(#1 was Ram and Indianapolis Colt Eric Dickerson, 84 games). (9067) Career to date. Sadly with salary caps and franchise player restrictions Edgerrine most probably won't be here in a Colts uniform next year.

Jacksonville won as did Cincinnati so we have yet to clinch The AFC South or first round bye. We will do both next week when we go 13-0 at Jacksonville.

Marvin Harrison, with his TD catch becomes the only receiver in NFL history to have eight 10TD seasons.

Peyton Manning has the most passing yards in NFL history for 8 seasons played and needs 34 more yards to have 3000 yards+ passing every season in the NFL.

The Twelve Days of...

Victory!

CoachDungy
Arriving home from the grocery store about 10 minutes ago, Jenni said, "You haven't posted today, have you?" "No, I don't know what to post I never do, I said" (which is usually true, I rarely come into the world headquarters with a preconceived idea of what I'm going to regurge from my mind. It's almost always a journey of discovery for me too). She then said, "Well, something about the Colts, I would think." Thus the heading, and you thought it was about the holiday season. Don't deny it.

This 'something' about the Colts. Then. With a win today the Colts guarantee a playoff berth, that's all. (Actually there's a whole heck of a lot more to it than that!) They are a 15 point favorite over the 3-8 Tennessee Titans, who are actually playing better with Steve (Robo-QB) McNair back behind center. If the Jags lose today the Colts win the AFC South Title for an unprecedented 3rd year straight (those of you who know, get it!), another week 13 (this week) scenario awards Indy the first round bye already: Cleveland (-2.5) and Pittsburgh (+3) both win today.

Peyton Manning set a personal goal for this season. A completion percentage of 70%, (what you thought it was a Superbowl ring?). Right now he is at 68% (still a personal best for a season) and carrying a QB rating of 104.5 (he finished last year at 67.6% and an amazing 121.1 due in large part to the 49TD passes!).

So a win today and the Colts, My Colts are only the 5th team in NFL history to go 12-0 (the last 3 won the Superbowl), clinch The AFC South Division Title, and possibly a 1st round bye and give Peyton a chance to reach closer to his season's goal. I say go for it all.

Tuesday Night
3holeballs
Bowling Night, 10 for 10 league. Third installment.

We came into last nights match-up in 1st place in our league. Two points ahead of 2nd and 3rd, 4 points ahead of 4th. We could very likely be third when the updates post later this week. We took 2 points and gave-up 5. I started good with a 186, then tanked horribly. David struggled with his pocket hit and left an alarming number of single pins all evening, he did have a good pick-up percentage though. Ed Sipes subbed for Will (he was not even in Indy last evening) and started like a pro with a 191, then he too felt the surly bonds of gravity and returned to Ed-form. All of us were shaking off the effects of a late Monday Night Football viewing from the night before (I didn't sleep well after the big Colts victory, I saw 3:00 AM come and go from my perch on the couch). Ed was also re-hydrating from a 2AM quit time at the Chatterbox, and not embibing at the bowling alley at all. Rich and I were really saving it up for Friday Night, when we play against a former summer league teammate. Bob Z. we must crush the Z-bra man! (For bragging rights only). I'll keep you posted (ha. ha.) Until then. Then.

Undefeated

Indianapolis 11-0.

A little history. Peyton Manning's first pass in the NFL, Game 1 of the Manning/Colts era. was a 78 yard TD pass to Marvin Harrison, Peyton's longest passing play of his career until last night. Unlike last night's 80 yard strike, the first hook-up between #18 and #88 was the second play of the game, the first was a short rushing play, so on 2nd and 8 the magic happened for the first time. Now every time Manning and Harrison hook up it extends one of their records, more TD's than any other duo in history, more yards than any other duo, or Harrison's growing career TD mark, which was already at 106 before stepping into a bomb and streaking for 80 yards and TD 107 last night in the national spotlight again. Last night was the Colts 400th victory as a franchise, a record 10th straight home win and obviously the 11th straight game without a defeat. WOW. Bring on Tennessee and McNair. Have a good day friends. I'll try to think of something else to talk about tomorrow.
I'm off to work.

Thrice Monday Night
manning_ol
Well. its that final Colts Monday Night Football showdown. Another good match-up. Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers. Tony Dungy vs. Bill Cowher. Peyton Manning vs. Ben Roethlisberger. Edgerrin James vs. Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker. 10-0 vs. 7-3. A chilling stat is that Indianapolis has never beaten a Bill Cowher coached Steelers team. Three weeks ago we get the Patriots Monkey off our back, only to be facing a bigger uglier pouty faced monkey this week. Man. And our schedule doesn't have to many push over teams left in it. Tennessee, Jacksonville, San Diego, Seattle and Arizona. (Home games in Blue). If we can beat the Steelers we step farther into thopse uncharted, undefeated waters. 11-0. I can think of nothing else to write about today. I'm preoccupied, obsessed, distracted. No maybe not, Travis' prize should arrive at the store today, and I have some photos for him and liz also. I will be in the box this evening for a pre-game liabation (or 2), but I will be home for THE GAME.

Kasey Kahne but Kasey had a strong showing all day. Our Nascar.com Fantasy league finished up with a party at Rich's. We call our league "The Turkey Fryers" and we are. Every year we deep fry turkeys for the Daytona race and the final Miami-Homestead race. Yesterday there were four turks sacraficed to the alter of motor sports. In addition to the Fantasy League Turkey Fryers above, other party members included Maddie, Alica and Steve, Melissa Shoffner, Jeff Barber, Ryan and Alex, Sheryl with John Ivan and Ella, Kay Niedenthal, John David and Pam Walker. There were several no-shows, including Lightnin' and Little Joey, Ed Sipes and my wife JennTenn (who chose to stay home for superstitious reasons, taking one for the Colts).

While the race was on the big screen the Bengals vs. Colts game was on a 27" right next to it. Peyton Manning and company took care of business and are now only one of 17 teams to go 10-0 since the 1988 Broncos. 45-37 Colts in the offensive showdown of the year. I didn't get to see the Pacers vs. Houston game, but the Pacers won by 11 points, 85-74. So like I said the outcomes were as I had hoped (for the most part).

The common thread for the last 10 Sundays has been the undefeated Colts. Well, guess what? Today they face their toughest opponent since they swept through the injury riddled Patriots like Wilma through Southern Florida. This is a real match-up, the Cincinnati Bengals are for real leading the league in takeaways and have arguably played a tougher set of opponents to this point. This is the game we were all afraid the Colts were going to be focused on last week instead of the happless Texans who we dispatched at the dome.

Then there's Racin' the big enchilada today, Miami-Homestead, where barring some major f-up Tony Stewart will win his second Nascar Championship (One Winston, One Nextel). That's all well and good. Anybody but Jimmie "The whiner." Ideal scenario? Kahne wins the race, Tony wins the Cup, Edwards comes in 2nd. Jimmie 40th .

rockets
And...The Houston Rockets come into Conseco at 7:00 PM after losing on Friday to the Pistons at home 70-78, the Pacers are trying to get back to winning form after losing two on the road before Friday's victory over the Bobcats, their longest winning streak this year, in the Post Reggie era is two. Today they need to tie that to stay above .500. Who's got time for glib goofiness or deep personal introspection on a day like this? Not I said the Little Red Hen! I've got a full plate, and I still have to make a green-bean casserole to take to Rich's for the turkey frying finale (if you get it, you get it).

Late Sunday Post
Colts Tix
I was sitting here at 9:00 AM minding my own business while in the kitchen the coffee maker was preparing my days java jive. I was actually working on my Cafepress site to add some chuckpace.com products. At about 9:20 mark Stephan from Canon calls and asks me if I could use two tickets to the Colts game at 1:00 PM. "Heck yeah! Absolutly, I'll be there in a little over and hour to pick them up." Then I called Lightnin' and offered him ticket two, ate my breakfast and drank a cup, closed all the computer windows I had open, and made my way from the east side to Carmel to retrieve the aforementioned tix. By 11:45 I was on Pan Am Plaza with Lightnin' talking smack and preparing to watch the Colts go 9-0. They did of course. Beating The Texans (now a 1-8 AFC South Division opponent) for the second and final meeting of this season. Peyton threw three TD's, no Int's, had over 70% completion ration for the 4th straight week and ended with a 120.7 quarterback rating. One of the TD's was to Marvin Harrison, the 106th career TD for him and the 90th hook-up between him and Payton, to further extend the NFL record. Edgerrin James rushed for 122 yards, and he and Marvin both had over 100 yards from scrimmage in the same game for the 21st time becoming the NFL's most prolific tandem, besting Michael Irvin and Emmet Smith who did the same feat 20 times with Dallas. Next week will be a bigger challenge, the 7-2 Bengals in Cincinnati. That is a four o'clock game, and I'll be entranced in that and the final Nascar Race of the year. StormtrooperNBlue

Friday night, bowling night. Four Get It almost forgot it. We only won the last game, and this was a position night. Rich managed to pull out a decent series with a 226 opening salvo, and a 171 average for the evening. Ed also hung right there with his 141 average, and me I also hit for a 141 average (sadly I came in with a 156 average). Mel was out of town and Skippy who has bowled exactly half of the 10 weeks was also not in attendance. Since it was a position night we were only allowed to used rostered team members and not general subs, luckily we had the forsight to roster Travis DiNicloa as a 6th member of our team and he bowled guite well establishing a 148 average.
Our friend Maddie showed up halfway through the second game and Pam showed up at the end of the final game. After league was finished Rich, Ed, Pam, Maddie and I went out to shoot some darts, Travis couldn't join us. Here I have to say that, in all the years of Dart throwing I've never had to move the dart machine to retrieve a dart or parts of darts before, yet somehow Pam managed to get three throws behind the machine (I found a bar dart back there and a tunnel that led directly to John Malkovich's Brain, but I didn't have time for that). She said she wasn't ready to give up her day job to pursue a career at darts just yet. I for one think she is making the right decision here.

Today is the second big day at the store, we're doing our fall demo days sale and it promises to be a busy one. Travis is planning on dropping by to look at one of the new Nikons Rich and I have told him about.

I've got to run, cameras to sell. See you on the other side of the monitor.

Bowl-O-Rama Update
So how did Four Get It, get it? I know you have been hanging onto the edge of you seat just like I asked you to. Well the anticipation is nearly over. When I say anticipation, I think of the Carly Simon song from the Little Black Book Soundtrack, some of you may think of the same song used in the Heinze Catsup commercials, that's o.k., or even the Mandy Moore remake of the same song, I guess that might work for the younger sets. Perhaps you thought of the Chevelle's song Anticipation from her album Wonder What's Next, but that's not what came to my mind. Now I hope the anticipation has built, just a little more.

And then... Here it comes! Deep breath. I moved to anchor as I stated yesterday, where after a poor first game I still managed to end up with a 162 average (7 pins per game over my 155 mark), Ed also bowled over his three game average with a 150 (his mark was 139 per game), We bowled Mel absent for the missed first game, then she arrived, but fell 7 pins short of her average for the final two. Skippy had the best individual performance and the highest single game score with a 178 (I had 2, 176 games, Ed a 166) with a 151 average, to best his league established 132 mark.
And then... We lost the first game by by 43 pins, but were able to rally ourselves in the second effort to only lose it by 7 pins. We led the final game all the way (even though Zack from the Phat Men started an awesome 6 strikes in a row in the 3rd frame, and his teammate Chad finished with 5 strikes in a row. It came down to the anchor bowlers on each team. Zack for the Phat Men and Me for Four Get it. I was following a spare and a strike in the first two boxes would guarantee a win. I opened, then picked it up. Zack bowled his first ball of the 10th, a strike, and his second, a strike... I bowled my final ball, a strike but the lane foul indicator went off! (Let me explain here that the foul indicator on lane 29 at Sport Bowl is defective, and often goes off when there's not even a bowler on the approach, it actually did this while Zack was getting his ball off the return in the second game).

angkor_wat
My final score goes up with a F showing in the terminal box of frame ten. Zack bowls his last ball, also a strike. He performs like an anchor is supposed to, they win 811 to 797. Zack and his teammates go back and correct the erroneous foul and give me back my strike, If only I had struck in the first box! We lost 811 to 807, four stinking pins! Some anchor, what?
Nope. Wrong answer! Angkor wat is in Cambodia.

Tonight is bowling night, Rich is planning on doing someting almost un-heard of for him, that's letting someone substitute for him. He does this so he can start prepairing for the bonfire that is planned to commerate his and Maddies birthdays and Meredith and David's visit to Indiana. The latest weather forecasts are looking pretty bleak, now there is an 80% chance of rain Saturday, up from 40% a couple days ago, so the events may be inside instead of out. I mentioned to Rich that we could have one heck of a Bonfire in his basement he agreed but was not to keen on the idea.
So we will see how the team does tonight without it's anchor bowler (we were thinking of making Mel our anchor after she carried us the first two games last week, but she scoffed at the idea). I have the highest average thus far into the league, so I'll probably move to anchor just to screw that up. Tonight's Lineup. Ed, Mel, Skippy and Yours Truly (I'm with you fellers). But for now my dutiful reader, you'll have to hang onto the edge of your seat until tomorrow's post to see how "Four Get It!" faired on the oiled hardwood's. Well, you'll just have to wait like the rest of us! Get a grip.

Another Blue Sunday
gtown_boat
Another angle of the old boat that died at waters edge at may parents house in Greentown. October 6th, 2002, just about a month before they moved to Florida permenantly. Chuck Pace © 2002

Sometimes Sunday's are especially melancholy. When my parents lived in Greentown we would often drive up there to watch a Colts game, Pacers game, a Nascar Race or just to visit. Their being nearly a thousand miles away on the Suwanee River means no easy visits to just spend a few hours. The same with Meredith and David they're even farther away. The are over 500 miles from mom and dad, on the opposite coast right off the Atlantic Ocean. It's fewer miles and takes less time to drive interstate from Indianapolis to Ashland City Tennessee than for Meredith and David to visit my parents from Stuart Florida to old Town Florida. Well all of that being said. I wish I were knee deep in family getting ready to watch the Colts and/or the Good old boys (I'll be flippin' back and forth between the two today I'm sure), having a family size meal and good times today. I'm sure Jenni and I can get to a reasonable level of revelry (enough to scare the cats into hiding) but it's just not the same in an empty nest, now is it!

I still don't know about the Nascar Chase. I think the format works to make the last ten races more competitive and exciting to the fans of the guys in the top five or six spots. But it also seems to punish the guys who really surged to get to the top two or three spots in the first 26 races.
Tony Stewart has been the most consistent, all but flawless in the last 16 or so races ( last weeks demolition derby tire fiasco at Lowe's not withstanding). Didn't it used to be the restrictor plate races and the under a mile venues were the total wild card races? To put it another way, Tony would have had a 195 point lead over Greg Biffle after the week 26th race instead of 5 points, and a 184 points over Greg now instead of 11. Jimmy Johnson would still be in third place had he to make up more than a 10 point difference behind Tony and a 5 point deficit from Greg Biffle. As it sits going into todays race at Martinsvile Tony and Jimmy are tied for the lead. Imagine all sports if you discounted the first 72% of the season and only counted the final 28% to achieve a champion.

Take football. Discard the records after the first 12 games. Give the leader of each division 4 points for leading, second 3, third 2 and last 1. Then give the winners of each game 2 points and 1 to the losers. Then take the highest from the NFC and the AFC and see who is in your Superbowl this year. I bet you wouldn't want to watch it. Sort of like letting the electorial college decide who is to be the next , Nascar, NFL or NBA champ. I don't go into the College BCS because I don't think the media (aren't they all based in the major markets?) and coaches (vested interests) should pick a champion either, but I don't know a better system for them. Maybe they should have a big dinner party after about ten weeks and ask all of the college coaches who they would least like to play against this year, and make them the champ! Shoot, do it at the beginning of the year and you won't even need to play the games.

GO COLTS! STAY UNDEFEATED! 7-0

What Me Worry?
Shod
This is the Tattoo I got during the Harbaugh years. Who's sorry now? (I never was). ©2005 Chuck Pace

I'm going Alfred E. Newman on you here. I wasn't worried when the Rams scored on their first drive. I didn't even frown when they took the Rhodes fumble and got into scoring position in the red zone again next possession(the could only get to our 11). When the Cots held them to three I knew our defense would be alright . The 17-0 first quarter score. Ha! It was 17 all at half time, and we got the ball first to start 3rd quarter. Defense, defense, defense I wish I were there to yell along with the 63,000. Cato June is leading the league in interceptions with FIVE an almost unheard of thing for a linebacker. We took the ball away four times and scored on each of those possessions. Then came history. Marvin and the toe drag. Make a good career film highlight with textbook style. 28-45 so they were able to put up 1 less point than the sum of all our other opponents. The Colts are now allowing 9.5 points per game. Darn. END. 6-0 still undefeated and facing the 0-5 Texans next.

But what about funny Chuck, irreverent Chuck, pithy Chuck. He's hoarse. Fan Chuck is driving this blog.

Blue Monday!
I got a lot of my weekend chores done. Watched a little football. Played catch and fetch with Charlie for forty minutes and generally had a great Sunday. I couldn't believe the number of tire related problems in Saturdays nascar race. The F1 prima donnas would have parked their cars for sure it they had this kind of tire issues.

BlueCheer
I made the Cheerleading squad for 15 seconds at the Browns visit.

Now I look forward to the BIG GAME: Monday Night Football. I will be listening to Bob Lamey and Great Grandpa Ted call the game unless I hear that the Madden Cruiser went up in a Sixteen Turkey Leg explosion! BOOM! At a confluence of highways! Tough Actin' Tinactin ! Better Call Ace! Boom! Wish I could Telestrate that for you!
I will be giving (Boom!) up my mindless (Here's a guy, right here's a guy) commentary for, "Well, Be-a be-a Bob bob that's exactly right. That's exactly right, I p-p-pplayed with his grand father in leather he-a he-a helmets". More records stand on the precipace tonight waiting for Peyton and the Colts to knock them into the history books. (Be-a be-a b-boom! Th-that's exactly right Ch-ch-chuck, I was playing with the Staleys when Edison was per-per-perfecting the rec-rec-re-a ...Gramaphone!)

Let's go 6-0 for the second time in franchise history and match the 1958 Baltimore: Colts 9-3 (World Champions)

GO COLTS!

Weekend Update. (Not SNL)

The Scene of the Shame! ©2005 Chuck Pace

This just in: Our Friday Night bowling team, 4 Get It. Sucks! We've only managed to procure through our "rolling moderately heavy, hard balls at inanimate object skills" 11 points of a possible 42. This is week 6 of 30 total, looks to be a long hard(wood) lane ahead.
Believe it or not we are not in last place, we occupy 12th of 14 places. (That was prior to tonight's 2 points out of 7 showing. I won't know the results of the nights frustration until they
post online later in the week!) This is supposed to be a fun weekly endeavor and often is, but it's also very frustrating sometimes (like Friday nights). I took the camera with me, planning to capture a team photo to place here for the recap. Know what? I didn't friggin feel like capturing this particular moment to share with a global internet community.

I still have another day of work to look forward today (Saturday), then the NASCAR race tonight. I will have to miss the Penn State at Michigan -Big Ten showdown on ABC at 2:30EST because I'll be earning my keep at the store. Then there's NFL Football on Sunday (although the real meat is on the Monday Night Menu: St. Louis Ram vs. Indianapolis Colts at Indy), and surely more website maintenance throughout the weekend. Domicile and grounds keeping chores await also, like mowing the yard, picking grapes, raking leaves, staring dumbly off into oblivion, and winterizing the hacienda. There's a possible trip to the Chatterbox on Sunday also, since the Colts aren't playing. I haven't been to a Sunday Boxxing yet, this will
only be their fourth Sunday open, I believe. So I do have stuff to do this weekend. Wish me luck. I'll be back with more thoughtpuking good times on Monday Morning.

GO COLTS!

One Week Into A Season, A New Season Starts
Pelican1
Mr. Pelican working on a tan on the Gulf side of Florida ©2002

Well, we sped through the last three episodes of Season 4, SMALLVILLE after Jenni got home from work so I wouldn't be totally in the dark for tonight's season premier. That was a lot of info to cram into an already bursting brain. Now I can go back and watch the other 20 or so at a more civilized pace.

Today, like the three before it finds me at the snot factory on overtime. Working double shifts to bring my phlegm to every piece of tissue in the house seems to be the goal. I'm popping Tylenol Cold like lifesavers, still have a fever and a wicked headache. But at least I have the satisfaction of knowing that when I drag my froggy throat and sick butt into work tomorrow nobody with accuse me of faking it just so I could stay home and launch myself into the world wide web. You can't fake Old Man Phlegm River, it just keep on rolling and rolling along.

My next web authoring task is to put some artwork and links in the sidebar on each page. (The Individual Gallery Pages don't have a side bar, so I obviously don't mean them.) Plus I have to come up with even more content. Perhaps music reviews, or books or DVD's , goodness knows I have enough of those things stacked, laying and shelved all about the house, and especially here in the den of clutter!
